London, can you wait?

Last time we said we’d let you know more details about the forthcoming Read And Shout! all-dayer in London. So here goes. The tickets went on sale last week and all 200 sold out in 40 seconds. Well, that’s the sort of crazy thing that happens when you book The Sweet Nothings for a gi… eh? What’s that? Jens who? Oh.

If you missed out and you still fancy a bit of marathon popshow action in the capital city, don’t be downhearted. Why? We’ll tell you for why. Our friends at Oddbox Records are putting on a weekender in May to celebrate their second birthday! OK, it’s our friend Trev, singular, and he’s not two years old, but his label is. Or will be shortly.

As with the Read And Shout! event, we’ll be playing probably quite early on the Saturday afternoon. And as with the Read And Shout! event, there’s a multitude of other tremendous bands lined up for it.

The Saturday bit on 7 May is at the lovely Windmill in Brixton. Besides us, it features The Lovely Eggs, The Blanche Hudson Weekend, Blood Oranges, The Wendy Darlings, Bastard Sword and four more to be confirmed. The Sunday is at the Victoria in Dalston (which might be lovely but we don’t know; we’ve never heard of it before) and the line-up is Help Stamp Out Lonlieness, One Fathom Down, the mighty Horowitz, The Understudies, Haiku Salut and three more to be confirmed!

Tickets are a remarkably cheap eight quid for the Saturday and six quid for the Sunday, with a limited number of 12 quid weekend passes available. They’ve been on sale for more than 40 seconds and there are still some left. But for how much longer is anyone’s guess. Here’s a link to buy some if you want to make sure.

Oooh, some gigs

Hello again. We’re all giddy and a-flutter from our first gig of 2011, last Friday at the excellent Chameleon in Nottingham. The Loves and Burly Nagasaki were a big stack of fun, and it was great to see Heroes of the Mexican Independence Movement: the new band featuring our friend Paul John Sarel, previously of the brilliant Rocky Nest. Big thanks to Alex out of Japanese Sleepers for putting us on (and providing somewhere for Dan and Pete to sleep).

That’s not all: we’re also delighted to be announcing our appearance at another couple of popshows, both with staggeringly good line-ups. One is supporting the mighty Eux Autres in Birmingham on 2 March. We heart Eux Autres. The second is a sort of all-dayer on 19 March in the London, at a library! It’s part of a campaign against the library closures resulting from the Tory bastards’ spending cuts.

Have a look at the gigs page for more information about those, and please come along if you can!

Extracurricular activities

Hello again. This is just a quick post to tell you about some of the exciting extracurricular activities that members of The Sweet Nothings are involved in right now. When we say “members of The Sweet Nothings”, we mean Dan, mostly.

On 22 January Dan is promoting an acoustic popshow at the Rutland Arms in Sheffield, featuring The Middle Ones, Haiku Salut, Plouf! and Oxo Foxo. You totally should come. Then next month Dan’s club night Pop-o-Matic is up and running again, this time at the Lescar on 11 February.

Meanwhile Pete is going to read some of his poems and stuff at Northern Lights, a new spoken word night at the Rutland Arms. That’s on Tuesday 8 February.

And as if all that’s not exciting enough, Dan has just had a query included, and answered, in the Guardian’s Notes & Queries section! This is probably as close as The Sweet Nothings are likely to come to fame in the new year.

See you soon!
